Ollie Torr

Founder & Coach

@ollietorr

Ollie is one of the founders of Lattice Training and works as a coach within the company. With an extensive list of qualifications and experience to his name, his knowledge of coaching, training and sports science runs deep.

He’s coached three Olympic athletes, including gold medallist Toby Roberts, as well as high profile climbers such as Alex Honnold. As an all round climber and coach, Ollie has worked with the world’s best across every discipline, from 9A boulderers to alpine big wall climbers.

He holds a BSc in Sports Science (First Class Honours) and an MSc in Strength and Conditioning (Distinction), giving him a strong formal grounding to draw on as a coach.

Ollie’s own climbing record is just as varied. With 18 years of climbing behind him, he’s sent routes and problems up to V13, 8c and E8, alongside plenty of big adventures beyond the grades. As a new dad, his focus has shifted from big walls back to bouldering, and he’s aiming to keep improving over the next few years, with a life goal of 8B+ and even 8C by 40.

Within the company, Ollie is passionate about bringing concepts from sport science, behavioural science and performance psychology into the real world of climbing. “It’s such a pleasure to address every climber and their goals as an individual, and know that every project can’t be fitted into a simple cause and effect box,” he says. “Getting to approach these challenges with climbers who are truly psyched to improve is constantly motivating and enjoyable.”

Ollie’s progression as a coach has been quick, and he now compares it to running a business, which he calls a “pretty relaxed process” by comparison. “Every day we make big decisions, develop new ideas and work out how to best support the climbing community. It’s busy, it’s stressful, and I love it.”
