LatticePlan: Injuries and Getting Started With Training

If you’re currently injured and looking to start training, we completely understand the frustration — being motivated to improve while dealing with pain or limitations in your climbing can be really challenging. We want to make sure you get the safest, most effective support, and that starts with choosing the right service for where you are in your recovery.

Why LatticePlans aren’t suitable during injury

The LatticePlan service is designed to create structured climbing training based on your level, experience, goals and time availability. It isn’t currently able to assess and create training plans that are adapted to injuries. Climbing injuries vary hugely in type and severity, and the app cannot yet collect the specific information needed to make safe training choices or modify workouts appropriately. Because of this, starting a LatticePlan while injured may not give you the tailored guidance you need — and in some cases, it could slow your recovery.

How we can support you

We absolutely support climbers through injury, but the best approach depends on the nuance of your situation. In many cases, our 1:1 coaching service is a better fit, as it allows a coach to:

  • Understand your injury in detail
  • Modify training around your current capacity
  • Progress sessions safely as you recover
  • Work in tandem with a physiotherapist and incorporate their guidance directly into your plan
  • Provide ongoing communication and adjustments week by week, specific to your rehabilitation

In some cases, the most appropriate first step is working with a physiotherapist to manage the early stages of rehab, before returning to training. This can aid with recovery, consistency and diligence with rehabilitation, which can really pay dividends in the long run. If that’s the case, you’re always welcome to return to LatticePlans or coaching once you’re ready to make the most of structured training again.
