Meet Your Coach: Flo Tilley
Flo has always been fascinated by the mental side of climbing. As a former GB Youth Team competitor, she experienced firsthand how mindset could make or break a performance. At times, she thrived under pressure, climbing at her best in competition. Other times, she found herself dreading events, frustrated by mistakes, or struggling to perform as she knew she could. A pivotal moment came when her coach helped her see that mindset wasn’t just something that happened—it was something she could actively work on and shape to her advantage.
That realisation sparked a deep interest in psychology and performance, leading Flo to pursue a Master’s in Sport and Exercise Psychology. She has since gone on to specialise in flow state—a mental state that blends focus, enjoyment, and high performance. Certified as a Flow Coach, she helps climbers take control of their mindset so they can climb at their best while also enjoying the process, leading to a rich and satisfying experience.
After shifting her focus from competitions to outdoor climbing, Flo applied these same mindset tools to her climbing, breaking through a six-year plateau to reach 7C boulders. She understands both the struggle and the satisfaction of challenge and believes that training the mind is just as important as training the body.
For Flo, mindset isn’t just about performance—it’s about taking control of your experience and unlocking your full potential on the wall. With compassion, understanding and accountability she will help you approach your training and climbing with flow, purpose, and enjoyment.
What if I’m not sure this will work for me?
Thats okay! Mindset coaching isn’t one-size-fits-all—and you won’t be pushed into anything that doesn’t fit your goals. There is no doubt that Flo’s experience of, and enthusiasm for, Flow shapes the questions she asks but she will always ensure she meets you where you are at, and Flo won’t go in with a prescriptive idea of what she will do. Each session is client led, tailored to your unique climbing experience.
If you want to ask any questions before booking a session please feel free to email me on: [email protected].
Is this counselling or therapy?
No — this coaching is not therapy or counselling. While therapy typically focused on understanding and healing past experiences, Coaching:
- Is more present- and future-focused
- Moving from Low distress to optimisation
- Builds awareness and help you perform at your best.
Sessions are a safe space to explore the mental side of your climbing—even if it includes tough thoughts or emotions. If anything ever falls outside the scope of coaching, Flo will help you find the right support.

The overall experience was immensely helpful. I had a one-off session before the summer which was a great introduction, and later took the three-session package, which proved far more valuable. The extended format allowed us to explore a wider range of scenarios, gave me time to apply the thinking in between, and then return with new reflections and questions. My only feedback would be around session structure. While I appreciated the open format and being able to set the focus myself, I’d also welcome Flo bringing a more defined agenda—offering direction based on our previous conversations and her own observations.

First session was about finding out many things and asking questions there might not be answers to. This was superb and was probably 9 out of 10. Second session was the follow up and building up on previous sessions, breaking down what happened, why, getting more answers to questions. This was 10 out of 10. I now have 3rd session booked and this will be more open, similar to the first session. I have made huge progress with my attitude towards climbing, goal setting, pushing and specifically falling and becoming more friends with the concept of falling (and failing too!). On a personal level Flo is a lovely and warm person, she “forced” me to talk and think about things rather then me expecting answers (to my problems) from her. I have made huge personal gains in climbing but feel some benefit to my personal life might be also included in it too. I honestly could not have wished for better outcome. Flo is fire! 😅👍
