Lattice App Update v4.3.0: Training preferences, equipment-constrained plans + alternative workouts | What’s new with LatticePlans?
Version 4.3.0 of the Lattice app — home to our LatticePlans — is here!
So, what’s new in v4.3.0?
1. Training Preferences (LatticePlan)
During the plan generation quiz, you’ll now be asked for your preferred way of training:
- Finger strength — hangboard or lifting edge
- Strength & power — board or bouldering
- Power endurance — routes or bouldering
- Endurance — routes or bouldering
You also have the option to select ‘no preference’ for all of the above.
Once you’ve given your preferences, the algorithms that generate your plan will now bias workout selection towards your preferred training mode. This doesn’t mean you will always be prescribed your preferred training method, but you should see it showing up more often.
2. Equipment Constrained Plan Generation (LatticePlan)
During the plan generation quiz, you’ll now be asked to specify what equipment you have available at home and at the gym. The new question should add around 30 seconds to the experience.
This means that you’ll only be assigned workouts that you can actually complete at each location, and won’t require equipment you don’t have access to. We’d rather the app prescribe a slightly less optimal workout you can actually do than a theoretically perfect one you can’t!
You aren’t able to change the equipment you have available mid-plan, so make sure to make correct selections during the plan generation quiz. If you visit a new gym, you can use the new ‘Switch Workout’ feature (described below) if the equipment selection is different from your usual gym. Otherwise, if you change gyms, or your equipment changes significantly, you’ll need to regenerate a plan to change the equipment constraints.
3. Switch Workouts / Alternative Exercise Selection (LatticePlan)
We know that knowing what equipment you have only solves half the problem. What happens when a session just doesn’t work for you on a given day? Maybe you’re travelling, the gym is completely rammed, or you’ve done the same fingerboard repeaters three weeks running and just need a change.
This is why we’ve introduced the ‘Switch Workouts’ function.
From the burger menu, select Switch Workouts, and choose the session you’d like to swap. From here, you’ll see a ranked list of alternatives that perfectly match your current training phase, goals, and equipment. You then have the choice to:
- Swap just this session: Perfect for when the gym is unusually busy or you are travelling.
- Swap all future instances: Great if you’ve tried a workout a few times and realise you simply prefer an alternative.
Note: You can’t change the training stimulus itself. If your plan says it’s a strength day, every alternative will also be a strength workout. You’re simply picking a different path to the same destination!
4. Overview Screen + Bug Fixes
We’ve redesigned the home screen so you can actually see what equipment your plan’s built around, how to start a new plan, and how to change settings. None of the new features help much if people can’t find the controls, and “how do I start a new plan?” was one of our most common support requests, so we’ve put that front and centre.
We also shipped out a handful of bug fixes and small improvements.
