How to get the most out of BIG DAYS OUT!
Big days out climbing can be hard to manage! We often have big goals for big days.
So here are 5 tips to help you manage them:
Make a plan
Decide what you want to try; what time to arrive; how long you’ll have to climb…
Be realistic about your goals for the session and the time you’ve got!
Have an objective
Set yourself a task for the day – it could be a new link on your project, a new onsight or just to have fun.
This will set the intention for the session and help you to stay focused. It will also give you something to achieve, even if your session doesn’t quite go to plan.
Warm up well
Even if you’re short on time, it’s still worth doing a full warm up. It will get you ready to climb, physically and mentally.
This could include a pulse raiser, some dynamic stretching, some muscle activation work and gradually building up to maximal climbing.
Choose the right partner
Choose someone that you trust, who you get on well with and gets you psyched!
Make sure that you have similar time constraints for the day and similar plans. While the grades that you’re climbing don’t matter, you don’t want to spend the whole day belaying when you’re having quick red-point burns.
Remember to enjoy yourself
Perhaps the most important point, remember that climbing is fun and that’s why you’re there.
Don’t get bogged down if the day doesn’t go to plan, try to make the most of it and take the small wins.
