FAQs
I've never been coached before. Is that ok?
No problem! Many of our clients come to us for their first coaching experience.
All our plans are delivered via our app, including detailed exercise descriptions and videos showing you how to complete the training, ensuring anyone with any level of experience can train effectively.
I'm not based in the UK. Do you offer remote coaching?
Yes! We work with clients all over the globe.
All of our coaching services are offered remotely so you can access world-class training, wherever you are based.
I am very busy. Do I have time for structured training?
Most of the climbers we work with have full time jobs, often with families and other responsibilities.
Our training plans with ongoing coach support (Climbing Training Plan PLUS and Flexibility Training Plan) are ideal for a busy lifestyle: if something last-minute comes up, your coach can edit your plan to suit.
Do you cater to all climbing grades?
We have experience working with athletes across a huge range of abilities; from those attempting their first V5 all the way up to professional rock climbers.
The entry requirements for all of our training plans are the same, you must have climbed V4/6B boulder or 6b+/5.10+ sport in the last 12 months.
You must also be able to hang your bodyweight on a 20mm rung for 10 seconds or more.
Am I too old to start training and pushing hard grades?
Absolutely not! Most of our clients are aged 35-50 (and we have worked with climbers well into their golden years!).
All of our climbers in this age range – whether they started late in life or not – are perfectly capable of getting stronger and fitter, and we see this on a weekly basis.
Am I still able to climb for fun whilst I’m training?
Yes, of course!
We’ll work with you to find the healthy balance between structured and unstructured climbing that’s necessary to keep your training sustainable in the long-term; whether that’s structured climbing indoors in the week and unstructured climbing outdoors at the weekends, or squeezing training into your lunch break to complement your social climbing in the evening.
My technique needs work. Is this the plan for me?
All our training plans are focused on developing the physical attributes needed for climbing. Your coach will look at the results of your testing and write a custom physical training plan to develop these.
If you’re hoping to focus on developing technique, we would recommend you work with a local in-person coach.
Which plan is right for me?
Consideration 1: The Grade You Climb
For all our plans, in the last 12 months, you must have bouldered V4/6B or sport climbed 6b+/5.10+.
If you climb at an intermediate level, all of our plans are suitable! Keep reading to find out what else you should consider when choosing your plan.
For anyone climbing at an advanced or elite level, we would recommend our Climbing Training Plan PLUS which includes ongoing coach support as your training is likely to be more nuanced and may need adjusting within a training block.
Consideration 2: Your Focus
If flexibility is your priority, then you should choose a Flexibility Training Plan. Whilst all of our coaches are able to prescribe flexibility as part of a plan focused on overall holistic performance, climbers hoping to improve their flexibility primarily would benefit from the expertise of our dedicated flexibility coaches.
Consideration 3: Level of Coach Support
If you are someone who has lots of questions for a coach, requires plan re-writes and edits due to a busy life or last-minute changes or inconsistent access to facilities, or if you simply want ongoing contact with your coach, our Climbing Training Plan PLUS is perfect for you.
If you’re happy with a self-led approach without ongoing coach support and monitoring, our Climbing Training Plan is right for you.
Consideration 4: Training History & Experience
If you’re someone who has never trained before or is relatively new to structured training, it’s likely that our Climbing Training Plan will meet your needs.
If you have a long history of structured training, it’s likely that our Climbing Training Plan PLUS will be more appropriate as you’ll be able to work with your coach in an ongoing way to nuance your training plan. This plan is perfect for anyone trying to break plateau.
I don't quite meet your physical requirements. Can I still do a training plan?
Unfortunately not – for all our plans, you must have bouldered V4/6B or sport climbed 6b+/5.10d+ in the last 12 months, and must be able to hang bodyweight on a 20mm edge for 10 seconds.
As all our plans are delivered remotely, we have physical requirements in place to reduce the risk of injury to clients. We don’t want to cause injury by putting your body under stress it isn’t ready for.
Additionally, these requirements ensure that you’re ready to get the most out of your time spent training!
You can head to our YouTube channel, blog or podcast for free resources to help you reach those benchmarks.
Our ‘Fingerboarding for Beginners’ video and ‘Training Fundamentals’ series are a great place to start.
Alternatively, our Education Courses are great resources for learning about and writing your own training plan. ‘A Climber’s Guide to Training’ is our flagship course that should teach you everything you need to know to write your own training plan.
I don't have access to the recommended equipment. Can I still do a training plan?
You will need the required equipment to complete the assessment at the start of your plan. However, after this, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have access to the recommended equipment. Our training plans are fully personalised—not just to your goals, strengths, and weaknesses, but also to the facilities and equipment available to you. Simply let your coach know what you have access to in your pre-plan form, and they’ll tailor your plan accordingly.
How do I stay in touch with my coach?
You can message your dedicated coach anytime through the Lattice Training app — they’ll typically reply within 1–2 working days with guidance, support, and plan adjustments. Your coaching starts with a video consultation, with discretionary video call follow-ups every 3-6 months. Weekly updates are encouraged, but you set the pace.
Learn more about how to make the most out of working with a remote coach.
What is the optional Coach Consultation?
A 30 minute video call with your coach where you’re able to ask all your questions, and discuss your training history, goals, facilities, and schedule.
Please note: this cannot be re-arranged if you miss your appointment.
When is my subscription payment taken?
The first subscription payment is taken 2 weeks after your selected start date, and every 4 weeks thereafter.
A minimum of 2 payments is required, in addition to your upfront payment (which is used to cover your third month of training).
At the end of the 14 week term, your subscription will renew automatically for a further 12 week term (requiring x3 subscription payments) unless you provide 4 weeks’ notice of cancellation.
How is my plan delivered?
All our plans are delivered on the Lattice Training app.
Your plan begins with two weeks of testing and preparatory training.
After this, you will receive your first 12 week training plan based off your testing results. This will be followed by another 12 week training plan to take you up to the end of your minimum 14 week term.
Your subscription will then renew automatically for a further 12 week term (requiring x3 subscription payments) unless you provide 4 weeks’ notice of cancellation.
How do I cancel my subscription?
- Minimum commitment 14-weeks
- 4 weeks notice required prior to cancellation
- To cancel, please submit the Cancellations Form
- See our Terms & Conditions
- See our Cancellation Policy
I have a lower body injury. Can I still do a training plan?
We’re sorry to hear that you’re injured! We wish you a speedy recovery!
Whilst we don’t typically work with injured climbers, lower body injuries are the exception since maintaining your upper body strength whilst you recover is a good idea. Your coach will write you a plan focusing on upper body conditioning and finger strength; just let them know about your injury in the pre-plan form you receive at the start of your plan.
Can I be pregnant or 12 months postpartum and complete a Climbing Training Plan PLUS?
Yes – Clients who are pregnant or less than 12 months postpartum can complete a Climbing Training Plan PLUS, however, we ask that you get in touch prior to purchase so that we can discuss your needs and ensure we have a specialist pregnancy and postpartum coach available for you.
Can I train mindset along with physical training?
You absolutely can, however, you may have to wait for Mindset Specialist Coach Flo to have availability. To request Flo as your coach, please submit your request via our waiting list.
You may also want to consider our mindset coaching service offered by Flo.
What discounts do members receive?
Climbing Training Plan PLUS clients receive 15% off products in our webshop and 25% off our online courses.

The premium plan is where it’s at! I cannot recommend this enough. I have trained with Lattice for one year now, and feel so much more confident both mentally and physically. I have a deeper understanding of how my body works, what my strengths and weaknesses are and how to work towards my goals. Maddy is an awesome coach, working with her has been such a gift! She has provided me guidance and support with great expertise. The way she tailors my plan to my specific body’s needs and goals is exceptional. Her work on how hormones play a roll in training and performance really helped me specifically. Having a coach to directly work with you is honestly just such a great tool, really cannot express how wonderful it is.

This plan is a game changer. After 9 months on the plan – the amount that I have improved and learned is crazy. If you are like me and climbing is your biggest hobby, do yourself a favor and invest in yourself. This plan is better than a gym membership for improving your climbing (most of my growth came while gyms were shut down and all I had to train with was a hangboard).
It was only after working with Maddy did I truly understand how little I actually knew about how to approach climbing training.
My improvement by the numbers:
Increased my sport onsight level from 5.10 to 5.12B
Climbed 5 V7s in a session (before the plan I had only done 1 after projecting it)
I actually tried a 5.13 (something I never thought I’d do)
While my climbing and strength have clearly improved I think a lot of the benefits of Lattice are non-tangibles.
I have never felt healthier.
I have never felt stronger.
I feel like I better understand how my body works.
I feel like I have a better grasp on fear
I feel like I actually know how to approach projecting
Lastly, my view towards myself changed. I stopped looking at myself as unworthy to be thinking about climbing hard (for me) grades, and started being able to see myself as an athlete working towards goals.
The plan has been great – outside of getting structured workouts with very sensical progressions – I have been able to ask any sort of question ranging from how to deal with being scared while climbing above small gear, to figuring out how to clip awkward quickdraws, to reasonings for decreasing edge size vs. increasing weight.

Climbing is a sport like any other on this planet. And in any sport when you want to excel in it, you need to train. Train for your goals, be it competition results or ever lifetime PB’s.
You need to set goals yourself you want to strive for. But when it comes to the road how to get there you need support. Every successful athlete has got a coach and a training plan with her/him. So with climbing, Lattice is by far the most serious, reliable, competent and hard working team out there right now to deliver exactly this sort of support for ambitious climbers!
From the beginning of my training with Lattice in January 2019, I was always trusting my coach that the training I was provided with, will lead to my goals I set myself.
In late autumn 2019, I fully committed to become a rock climber with everything you need to invest for it. Climbing has become a passion for me.
Lattice has not aroused this passion. But Lattice has given me a framework in which I could unfold this passion! I built up confidence in their idea how to approach (physical) training for climbing. Perserverance, tenacity but also fun and pure joy accompanied me ever since!
At the beginning (climbing around 7a+’ish), in three years time I wanted to climb the grade 8a. This year I went through the roof climbing multiple 7b+ and 7c, almost sending one 7c+ and projecting successfuly a 7c+/8a route.
A training plan, personal encouragement, advice and mental support from my coach make me feel as if the team of Lattice is behind when I work for my goals.
Huge thanks to you Oli!

I have been using Lattice training plans for over a year now. I started with Lite plans which worked out well for me. But I decided to go for a Premium plan last spring in order to prepare even better for a planned climbing trip in early September. There was some hard training in store over the summer, but the returns in terms of climbing ability were sweet. I am now on my third block of Premium Plans. I have been very happy with my experience so far: the plans are carefully designed with my long-term goals in mind and I feel I am progressing towards these goals, slowly but surely. I have been gaining in strength, endurance and mobility whilst remaining injury free. The last point is extremely important and by no means a given for an older climber like myself. My shoulders are in the best health they’ve been in for a long time which I think is the result of a combination of various exercises geared towards strength and mobility of the shoulders. The same goes for fingers: I have gained substantially in finger strength over the last months and at the same time my fingers and forearms have never felt better. I am in regular contact with my coach who not only designs the plans, but also provides advice, answers to questions and general feedback on my progress. This has been particularly important these last weeks as my training has needed to revert to my home: I still feel as if I’m making progress (although I will not know for sure until I can return to the gym ;-)). So no doubts about continuing training with Tom H. And looking forward to reaping the long-term rewards next season.

I’ve been working with lattice for more than a year now and have enjoyed every second. It is hard to say which aspect from the premium plan I value the most – the training plan is tailored to my personal needs, but the personal contact with my coach is also amazing. From technical and mental training tips to great life advice and a listening ear when needed, having a coach like Maddy has made me a better climber in every possible way. The premium plan offers everything you need to become a better (and healthier) climber and stay motivated even in difficult times. Or in my case, to make sure I also value and enjoy rest days and studying next to climbing and training all the time. Big thanks to you Maddy!
